Alt + F4___ Closes the current window
Alt + Tab___ Hold down the Alt key and tap the tab key until the icon for the window you want to go to is highlighted. Then release the Alt key. Ctrl + C___ Copies the selected text or graphic into the clipboard. Ctrl + Esc___ Displays the start menu. Use this if you don't have a Windows logo key on your keyboard. Ctrl + P___ Sends the current document to the printer for printing. Ctrl + V___ Pastes the text or graphic currently in the clipboard where the cursor is positioned. Ctrl + X___ Deletes the selected text or graphics object and places it in the clipboard. Ctrl + Alt + Delete___ Restarts the computer without shutting it down. Use this keystroke sequence when the PC hangs up. Sometimes it will restore operations by giving you the option of closing the program causing the problem. However, sometimes it will shutdown the PC in which case you merely restart it. |
Ctrl + Z___ Cancels previous operations in sequence. Holding the Ctrl key and tapping the Z key will cancel all previous operations, one at a time. Works in most windows programs.
Esc___ Deletes the last operation performed or removes a pop up dialog you mistakenly caused to appear. Backspace___ Deletes the last operation performed, similar to the Esc key. If one doesn't delete what you want, try the other. F7___ Starts the spell checker. Works on most windows programs. PrtScrn___ Use this key (third from last key in the top row) to capture the current display on the monitor. Clicking this key places a picture of whatever is showing on your monitor into the clipboard. You can then paste it into a paint program such as the Windows Paint program that comes with any Microsoft operating system such as, Windows/95/98/ME. Then with a paint program, you can crop, manipulate and transform the picture to be whatever you want it to be, within the capability of the paint program. In all windows programs, The keystrokes to perform many of the menu options are identified to the right of the menu item, if there is one. Try to remember the ones you might use often.
