Deleting E-mail & Creating New Mailboxes

Deleting Messages

The Inbox, the Outbox, the Sent Items and the Drafts need to have some of their messages deleted periodically or they will fill continuously.

The Outbox takes care of itself because messages only stay in the Outbox until the are sent. As soon as they are sent, they no longer appear in the Outbox.

To delete other messages you first left click one of the mail boxes in the left pane (i.e., the Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items or Drafts), then click the specific message or messages you want to delete from the right pane, then press the delete key on your keyboard.

Remember, the basic selecting and dragging procedures work in Outlook Express as they do in other windows programs. Therefore, selecting several messages and moving the to another mail box or deleting them can be easily done.

Also, the Deleted Items mailbox can be completely emptied from the Edit menu as indicated in the next snippet.

Creating a New Mailbox

If you would like to create a new mailbox for saving e-mails, then open Outlook Express by clicking its icon from your desktop or task bar, wherever the icon is located.

Your Outlook Express will open with the Local Folders heading on the left. Then right click the Local Folders heading

and then the New Folder option as indicated in the snippet. Then type Saved as the name of your new mailbox or any name you wish.

It doesn't have to be a box for saving e-mail, it can be for any mail. You can follow this procedure for creating any number of new mailboxes.

To complete the procedure, Click OK to close the dialog box. Your new mail box will be placed at the end of the Local Folders list.

To place mail into the new mailbox, or any mailbox for that matter, you select the message you want to move, then drag it to the mailbox.
