Outlook Express Mail Boxes

Next, let's look at the opening page of Outlook Express as you'll see it, when it opens showing the inbox and all the other mail boxes.

As in any windows program, it's wise to take time getting the big picture of the program before using it. Getting the big picture requires you to identify the features you will most likely use and those you'll probably never use.

First notice the program displays three panels. One for each of its main functions. At the extreme left is the mailbox panel. It contains five folders labeled: Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, and Drafts.

The inbox folder is where your incoming messages are kept. Incoming messages are kept here until you either delete them or move them to another folder.

The Outbox folder is where your replies are stored when you are not connected the internet. It allows you to write and store as many replies as you wish without sending any, until you are through preparing them, and get on the internet to send them.

The Sent Items folder is where all messages you have sent out are stored until you delete them. If, for some reason, you think something happened in transmission or if someone sent you a message saying they didn't get an expected reply form you, then you can check this box to see if your message actually went out.
