Most of us are not interested in news groups, tips of the day and other clutter that's on the opening page. So, the first thing to do is set the program to show the inbox and the other folders when Outlook Express opens. To do this you go to the Tools menu at the top of the page and click once to drop down the options.

Then click the Options item as indicated in the above snippet.
Then click inside the little box on the next snippet, where it reads "When starting, go directly to my inbox folder".
