Miscellaneus Skills

Now that you know how to select (i.e., highlight), copy and paste, you should understand that you can easily delete text by highlighting it, then tapping the "Delete" key. Let's do a combination. Place the typing cursor in front of the word "How" in the Tilly letter. Now hold down the "Shift" key and while holding it down, tap the "End" key. In this manner, you can select an entire line, with precision.

Try other combinations like holding down the "Shift" and "Ctrl" keys simultaneously and then tapping the "End" key. This will highlight everything from where the typing cursor is to the end of the document.

So, if you do a similar thing only use the "Home" key instead of the "End" key, you'll highlight everything from where the typing cursor is to the beginning of the document. Neat stuff!!

Backspace deleting

You can use the "Backspace" key (located to the left of the "Insert" key with the arrow pointing to the left) to delete characters to the "left" of where the typing cursor is positioned.

Place the typing cursor precisely to the right of the "y" in Tilly. Now tap the "Backspace" key once.

The "y" is deleted. If you continue to tap the "Backspace" key you will delete the other letters in "Tilly". ALL CHARACTERS YOU DELETE WITH THE BACKSPACE KEY ARE TO THE LEFT OF THE typing cursor.

Now place the typing cursor precisely in front of the "T" in "Tilly" and tap the "Delete" key once. The "T" is gone. ALL CHARACTERS YOU DELETE WITH THE DELETE KEY ARE TO THE RIGHT OF THE typing cursor. Try your level best to get this straight. It is one of the most difficult things for beginners to remember.

Now let's suppose you accidentally delete a word or several characters unintentionally because you used the "Delete" key instead of the "Backspace" or vice versa. As soon as you realize your mistake, remove your hands from the keyboard then go to the "Edit" menu with your mouse pointer and left click once. The very first item on this menu is "Undo". This is one of your best friends in the whole world! Left click this item and voila, your unintended deletions are restored.

You can perform this "Undo" function also with the key combination "Ctrl+Z" as noted on the "Edit" menu. To u se this key combination, as soon as you see you are doing the wrong delete, hold down the "Ctrl" key and tap the "Z" key.
