Typing A Letter (3)

The "I" beam pointer is used to place the typing cursor at a specific spot in the text area.

Now move the "I" beam pointer to the front of the "T" in the word Texas. Now without moving it, click the left mouse button once. Now move the pointer out of the way. See the blinking cursor right there where you clicked! SO REMEMBER, THE I BEAM POINTER IS USED TO MOVE THE TYPING CURSOR WHERE YOU WANT IT.

Now, what is important is that if you start typing at this point, the typed characters will appear exactly where the typing cursor is

NOT WHERE THE MOUSE POINTER IS!

Next I'll show you how to save this letter so we can use it later for other topics. Saving the letter is covered in the next topic in great detail, so for now I'll just give you a quick save instruction.

First move the mouse pointer to the "File" menu at the top of the tilly letter window and left click once.

Next click on Save. You will then see what is called a dialog box with a dark highlighted (dark) area near the bottom something like the next figure:

This dialog box is asking you to give the Tilly file a name to save it by. Don't move the mouse, Just type the words "Tillynote" and what you type will go into the dark area as indicated in the figure.

Because the "File name" slot is highlighted, whatever you type will go into the highlighted area. Finally click on "Save" as indicated in the figure.
