The first thing you do is go to the "Start" button. Isn't that interesting? What genius
figured that out? Oh well, place your pointer over the "Start" button and left click it once
to get the following:
Then left click "Shut Down". I don't show a picture here because the shutdown dialog boxes have changed. You will see something that gives you several options. Click the one that reads "Shutdown". The shutdown process takes a few seconds and may display other boxes like the one above, asking you what to do about any open programs you may have left unsaved. You will be required to click on certain buttons based on the question being asked. Answering the questions will be easy if you read the dialog box (that's what the PC world calls a box that asks you questions) carefully. The item you need to click will be obvious by the text that shows for you to select from.

Some computers shutdown by themselves. That is, after you press "Yes", they close
without any further action by the user. However, some PCs show the following message:
It's now safe to turn off your computer"
When you see this message you can turn the power switches off for the PC and all
peripherals such as the monitor and printer
If you intend to use the PC again during the day, I recommend you leave it on until you get back to it. Most modern PC systems have power saving features and will turn themselves down to a power saving level during your absence. However, if the weather is stormy with lightning, the PC should be shut down completely. If a storm develops while you are working on the PC, shut it down and wait until the lightning stops before turning it back on.
