Think of your PC as a file cabinet. The file cabinet has three drawers to store stuff. In PC talk, the drawers are called disk drives. They contain electronic files. The disk drives have the following names:
Notice the letter B for a B drive is not there. That's because most PC's only have one floppy drive. They could have two if another is purchased.

A person can buy more of the
other drives as well and each would be given
a letter name in sequence, E:, F:, G:, etc.
Notice the A: and D: drives are the only ones that are shown open. That's because the A: drive uses little diskettes which you can insert and remove. Also the D: drive uses compact disks (CD's) which can be inserted or removed. However, the C: drive is only accessible electronically. You can't physically remove it hence it is often referred to as the fixed drive. Electronic files and nothing but electronic files are stored on all these drives. So remember, computers use files to do everything!
