If you click on "Open it", the file will open so you can see what's in it. It could be a picture, or simply a letter
someone is forwarding to you.
What many senders of attachments don't understand, however, is that the recipient can only read files that are generated by software that is compatible with the software on the recipients PC. |
So if you get an attachment that looks like gibberish or you get an error message, it is not your fault. The sender needs to better understand what he/she is sending. You should trash such e-mail messages and send a reply to the sender explaining that you have no program to read the attachment. If you click on "Save it to disk" then OK, then you will see a dialog box like the next picture:

Of course the file or files you see will be different from those in the picture because what you see here are on my PC.
You can save attached files anywhere you like. Saving to the desktop is a good idea until you decide whether or not you want to keep them. |
The above picture shows the desktop as the location of the save. Look at the Save in: slot.
