How to Display Files

Let's look at files on a floppy diskette. First, place a diskette in the A: drive. Double click the My Computer icon (on the desktop) then Double click the A: drive icon

You'll see all the folders/files on the A: drive diskette. The folders/files shown in the following picture are on my PC. Yours will be different. Folders are easy to recognize because their icons look like manila folders. The icons for files are quite useless. They are cryptic representations of parent company logos. Ignore them and just read the file names.

If you double click on a folder, you'll see the files and folders inside it. This can be done as long as there are folders visible. Remember there can be many folders inside other folders.

However, don't click on files just for kicks! Some files are computer code and you shouldn't tamper with them. Other files may open programs you don't understand and shouldn't be tampered with either.

The first picture below is displayed in "List" view. There are other views which can be selected from the View menu at the top of the window. The options are Large Icons, Small Icons, List, Details and on some computers, Thumbnails. The second picture below is in Large Icons view.. Try them all to see what you like. Any time you are looking at a display of folders/files, you can change the view from the view menu.

The procedure for displaying any drive on your PC is:

1. Double click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
2. Then double click the icon of the drive you want to display.

For the CD drive (normally D:) you must place a CD in it before you can display it or you'll get an error message.
